Let it Rain

I wrote this a year or two ago. Enjoy:

Most of us really don't like rain at all. When it rains to much people tend to feel sad. As I was driving to work this morning in the torrential downpours I thought how nice it is to have it rain. How it cleanses the earth. How water and rain cleanse us. ( I was really hoping it would cleanse my car this morning...LOL!) And "Let it Rain" came on by Michael W. Smith. The irony of it made me smile.

Rain-is a type of precipitation, a product of the condensation of atmospheric water vapour that is deposited on the earth's surface. It forms when separate drops of water fall to the Earth's surface from clouds. Not all rain reaches the surface; some evaporates while falling through dry air. When none of it reaches the ground, it is called virga, a phenomenon often seen in hot, dry desert regions.

I thought the virga part of the definition was interesting. How many times doe we feel that we are in a dry desert region and that we can't reach God? Or that God can't reach us. God is never unreachable. He is always there. We may not be able to see him or feel him. But are we looking for the wrong signs? When we are in those dry times we have to persevere. Keep reading, keep praying, keep fellowshipping. You may not see God where you expect to see him. Maybe you will see God through the compassion of a good friend. Or in the love of a small child or pet even. Some of us see it in nature and the beauty that God created for us. The desert may be to HOT to handle and you man not want to be there, but God has put you there for a reason. You will always come out on the other side stronger from the mountains or sand dunes that you have climbed.

2 Corinthians 12:10 (KJV)
Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then I am strong.

Reign- A reign is a period of time a person serves as a monarch or pope. NO time limit exists on reigns, nor is there a term of office. Thus a reign usually lasts for the remainder of the monarch's life, unless the monarchy itself is abolished or the monarch abdicates.

Notice the two different uses of the word rain/reign. They both sound the same but have a very different meaning. If we let God reign in our lives, wow..what a difference it makes. Not when we are walking before him or behind him, but right there with him...in the same steps. There is so much to learn. The verse below is my favorite part of the song. It has so much meaning to it.

The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad
let the distance shores rejoice
Clouds and thick darkness surround him
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne
A fire goes before him and consumes his foes on every side
His lightning lights up the world
The earth sees and trembles
The mountains melt like wax before the Lord
Before the Lord of all the earth
The Heavens proclaim His righteousness.

If we could only let God really reign in our lives at all times. It's so hard to let go of the control we have over our own lives. To let someone else be in control of it all. But that's all he truly wants. To be the leader of our lives, the stronghold the capstone. The one we look to at all times.

How Great is our God: The words awesome, magnificent, undeniable, uncontainable are just a few words that go through my mind. Go to God today, spend some time with him. Walk away from work for a few minutes or find a quiet place to get a little bit of Solitude and just think of God and the rain/reign he has provided in you life. The saying goes, "When it rains it pours." Which usually has a negative connotation to it. But even when we feel overwhelmed there is always a reason God has places us in those time of trouble for a reason. Delight in you weakness, be thankful that even through the hard times you still have a God that reigns in your life and loves you more than anything. I've been through some very dark times, where I didn't know which end was up. Or where I wanted to be. But through that I know that I will be able to help someone through a dark or troubled time.

Let it Rain
By Michael W. Smith
Let is rain, let it rain.
Open the floodgates of Heaven
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad
Let the distance shores rejoice
Clouds and thick darkness surround him
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne
A fire goes before him and consumes his foes on every side
His lightning lights up the world
The earth sees and trembles
The mountains melt like wax before the Lord
Before the Lord of all the earth
The Heaves proclaim His righteousness
And all peoples will see His Glory
We want to see Your Glory, GOD!
Do you want to see HIS Glory?
Lift your voices, lift your hands!
Let it rain, let it rain.
Open the floodgates of Heaven.
